Valentine’s Day is on February 14th and is a special day where we celebrate Romance, Love and Gratitude for our significant companions. It can be a sweet day filled with gifts, chocolates and of course, Roses! Here are 10 interesting facts about Valentine’s Day.

1. Approximately 150 million Valentine’s Day cards are exchanged, which makes it the second most popular date to send cards besides Christmas. 
2. It has been suggested that St. Valentine was killed because he helped Christians escape from harsh Roman prisons. 
3. It is told that while in prison, Valentine fell in love with a jailer’s daughter and wrote her the first “Valentine’s Day Greeting” before his death, signed “from your Valentine.”
4. Valentine’s Day is celebrated in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Mexico, France, Italy, Japan, Denmark and Australia.
5. It is estimated that women purchase 85% of all Valentine’s Day Cards.
6. The Skull of St. Valentine is on display in Rome.
7. It is noted that the great English poet, Geoffrey Chaucer, may have actually invented “Valentine’s Day” within his fictitious historical contexts.  
8. There is not just one historically known Saint Valentine, there are actually several of them, including a woman.
9. During the Middle Ages, February 14th is also the same day it is said birds and humans would pick their mates.
10. It is thought that the Church chose February 14th for “Valentine’s Day” in an attempt to Christianize the pagan Roman celebration of “Lupercalia” which was held on February 15th.
